It’s not easy designing every aspect of a bathroom. We often take inspiration from the latest Netflix series or movie. But let’s face it – it’s unlikely that the 30-foot water feature in the Los Angeles mansion is going to make it into our design plans. So let’s check out whats really happening in modern bathroom design in towns across Northern Ireland.
1. Wet room
If you’ve got the space, having fully tiled shower area is a popular choice. We recently renovated a large bathroom area in Cookstown complete with floor to wall tiling and wall mounted toilet and basin. Wet rooms provide improved accessibility and are easy to maintain.
We’ve installed wet rooms with and without the shower screen. Getting water-proofing and drainage is key when installing wet rooms. Marty Hughes of Prestige Bathroom Installations says, “It is key to design the correct drain position when it comes to wet rooms, and to reduce the risk of water escaping the room that should as far from the bathroom door as possible”.
2. Couples Bathroom Suites
We all need our own space and that includes within our own bathrooms. Many modern bathroom suites feature double basins and cabinets to allow couple to create their own unique space. Quite often the multiple cabinets are replaced with a central over-sized mirror, creating a focal feature of the room.
If you have the space these are a great option, especially when combined with individual bathroom furniture.
3. Freestanding Baths
Probably the most common feature of modern bathroom design over the last few years has been the freestanding bath. Almost 60% of the projects we have completed in towns like Downpatrick, Banbridge and Armagh have included installing modern free-standing baths.
Clients cite the main reason is the sense of luxury and prestige the feature provides.
We’ve noticed that bathroom size is not a factor when it comes to freestanding baths. They come in all shape and sizes and can be fitted in most available spaces.
4. Non-Traditional Material
White ceramic bathroom suites are fast becoming anything other than the most popular choice. Recently we have seen an increase in non-traditional materials being introduced. From copper basins to dark wooden cabinets.
